Hot Topic Breakout
Sessions
To provide further
opportunity for attendees to ask questions of speakers or pursue a
specific follow-up area of interest, Breakout Sessions have been added
to Hot Topic sessions 1, 3 and 9 this year. Following the 1 1/2-hour
session, an informal, 1 hour breakout session will be held for those
interested in participating. The sessions will facilitate networking and
accessibility to speakers for these Hot Topics. |

Description:
This session will discuss the current
state of workflow in both the Interventional Suite (Interventional
Radiology/Cardiology) and its environment including information
gathering, patient scheduling, results presentation and reporting. HI-IQ
will be presented as an example of a practice coordination tool. We

Hx Technologies, Inc.
|
|
David S. Channin, MD
Northwestern University
Medical School
|
|
|
Description:
Physician access to historic medical data
is essential in providing quality care and, in some cases, may directly
reduce the number of ordered duplicative procedures or tests (e.g.
imaging studies). Traditional methods for accessing outside records are
usually fraught with inefficiencies. The concept behind RHIO is to
develop a seamless informatics solution that
provides on-demand
access of historical medical data between disparate institutions without
the existence of a common medical identifier. This session will discuss
the RHIO concepts and showcase how a RHIO using IHE profiles will allow
sharing of imaging studies between institutions.

PACS and/or RIS replacement is a daunting
undertaking. This session will focus on criteria for deciding on upgrade
versus replacement. Strategic alternatives for safe replacement will be
presented. Tactical technical issues related to migration of DICOM image
data, and PACS and RIS databases will be discussed. The option of
replacement by an integrated RIS/PACS will also be examined.

|
|
Description:
The in vivo
imaging workspace of caBIG is an NCI-funded effort to advance the involvement of imaging in
cancer research, primarily focused on clinical trials. This effort began
in September 2005, and has successfully issued contracts for software to
assist in image analysis for cancer research. Other activities include
advancement of standards, as well as advancing the state of vocabularies
and standard data elements for imaging. It has also developed a testbed
for demonstration of software and projects.

|
Description:
Though discussion of DICOM generally is
focused around the subject of modality-specific image types and the
services required to support PACS and RIS workflow and reporting
management, other areas of DICOM are undergoing active development and
deployment. This session is intended to introduce the attendee to more
“exotic” areas of DICOM that are becoming increasingly more relevant as
installations become more heterogeneous, complicated to manage and yet
are expected to support more sophisticated applications. The focus will
be on how new objects and services address advanced use cases.
