Dr. Glasser presents the
Opening Session of the SIIM 2007 Annual Meeting on:The Evolution of the Role
of Imaging Informatics in the Health Care Delivery System
In the years
ahead, imaging informatics will play stronger and more diverse
roles in health care provider organizations. These roles will
encompass:
Growing
diversity of modalities and a larger span of medical
disciplines;
Increased
utilization of imaging annotations and feature extractions to
support care improvement and research efforts;
Inclusion
of images in regional, state, and national clinical data
exchanges;
Increased
utilization of order entry and electronic medical record
decision support algorithms to guide provider ordering behavior;
and
Expansion
of imaging to support advances in molecular medicine-based
research.
This presentation discussed these roles and their likely
evolution. Strategies for facilitating this evolution were discussed.
SIIM Exhibit Hall Opens:
An opening reception
was held in the Exhibit Hall on Thursday morning. Attendees filled
the hall for an opening brunch to check out the latest equipment and services in imaging
informatics.
The
SIIM Research & Development Committee presented its 7th
symposium featuring 3 topics. William Boonn, MD, University of
Pennsylvania, presented a progress report on his SIIM 2006 grant
project, "An Open Source Web-based Application for Radiology Decision
Support." Katherine Andriole, PhD, Brigham & Women's Hospital,
Harvard Medical School, provided an update on the SIIM TRIP
Initiative -- what is the current focus and what future efforts are
planned. Elizabeth Krupinski, PhD, concluded with a tutorial
on proving equivalence in the evaluation of imaging techniques.
Charles Willis, PhD

Dr. Willis opens the first
session of the 2007 SIIM University by moderating a session on Digital
Radiography.
